Who is the Reverend Bloom, the latest performance art character created by artist Sarnia de la Maré FRSA?
In a society obsessed with screens and the demonisation of women, where humanity has outsourced its conscience to algorithms trained on our basest appetites, The Reverend Bloom emerges. She no average saviour. This mirrored rendition of humanity's most grotesque desires shines light into a murky world where everything is fuckable, even forgiveness.
She becomes a digitally created deity, an installation, sculpted from the male fetishisation of his own forgiveness, the self flagellation of Adam's shame.
The Reverend Bloom is a ridiculous figure, voluptuous, eternally forgiving and by necessity, saturated in male desire. All artists crave their work to be seen. To be seen now requires absurdtity.
She is the grotesque apotheosis of our contradictions: a moral goddess hyper-sexualized into cartoonish fertility. She prays for you and with you, her prayers dripping with temptation as you are healed.
The Reverend Bloom reclaims the sacred by making it shallow, sexualised, primitive. She is camp eschatology. She is forgiveness as drag. She holds up the mirror of AI embodiment and asks: if this is what we make when we dream of the divine, what does that say about the dreamers?
As an artist I claim the power to heal and forgive through this artwork.
