Fevers and Physicians in Space ch I: ‘Pandemic’ by Jesse F. Bone Audiobooks at Tale Teller Club
www.taletelllerclub.com Our featured sci-fi shorts for this week are listed below

Fevers and Physicians in Space

https://librivox.org/ recording of Fevers and Physicians in Space (Ed Reads Short Sci-fi, vol. II) by Various.
Read in English by Edmund Bloxam

I: ‘Pandemic’ by Jesse F. Bone
A deadly pandemic consumes the world (blah blah blah - you know the rest). If only THAT was the cure to the real one?

II: ‘2BR02B’ by Kurt Vonnegut
I wanna live forever...and have kids...but what about the consequences?

III: ‘The Beautiful People’ by Charles Beaumont
Why would you not want to be beautiful? Like every else.
Now, now, don't be difficult.

IV: ‘Operation Distress’ by Lester del Rey
One man alone in the depths of space...suddenly struck with illness...if he returns to Earth, he could infect the world!

V: ‘Doctor’ by Murray Leinster
In the complex logistics of interstellar travel, the only way to cordon of the deadly plague is to ghettoize entire planets and let everyone die. Problem solved.
But does a Zero-plague strategy really work?

VI: ‘John’s Other Practice’ by Winston K. Marks
Malpractice? Or will technology be allowed to innovate health care? Can Dr. Klinghammer convince the authorities that the corporation is not trying to scam them?

VII: ‘Bolden’s Pets’ by F. L. Wallace
I have a disease and all the planet's natives gave me was this lousy pet. But at least I have a cute pet now. Or do I?

VIII: ‘The Addicts’ by William Morrison
Another kind of disease. This time with a flawless and simple cure.
But what if he won't take it? What if he's fatalistic about the strange creatures outside in space?

IX: ‘The Man Who Made the World’ by Richard Matheson
"Who is this strange patient I must see, nurse? He seems a bit of a brat."

X: ‘Contagion’ by Katherine Maclean
When colonizing a new planet, please remember: look out for new contagions, pay attention to the fact that your body can't digest the food (genetic manipulation required!)
And beefcakes. Watch out for beefcakes.

XI: ‘Breeder Reaction’ by Winston K Marks
Finally, the medical scientists get hold of the new beauty product. The 'Mad Men' types try to cover up their sloppiness, and their bellies...

XII: ‘The Disembodied Man’ by Larry Maddock
A cure for death itself! It'll take some patience though. And a mysterious voice.

XIII: ‘Advanced Chemistry’ by Jack G. Huekels
No, it's actually a cure for death this time. For real. But accidents will happen...

XIV: ‘Bad Medicine’ by Robert Sheckley
A man intent on murder attempts a common therapy for psychosis. With disastrous results.

XV: ‘Homesick’ by Lyn Venable
Space, full of pathogens and allergens the human body can't cope with. Especially on...alien...planets.

XVI: ‘Heart' by Henry Slesar
"Money!" the big man cried. "How much money would it take to get me repaired?"
"But it's not a matter of money—"
"Don't give me that!" Monk put his jacket on with a violent motion.
The physician shrugged. "Money doesn't buy health."
"Doesn't it?" The patient gave an abrupt laugh.

XIX: ‘The Happy Unfortunate’ by Robert Silverberg
'Healthy little ape'—those were the words he used. He told my grandmother I'd get bigger and bigger, that no amount of surgery could make me small and handsome, that I was fit only for space and didn't belong in Yawk. So I left for space the next morning.

Devil's Crown by Tale Teller Club

Devil’s Crown by Tale Teller Club

It’s the curse of the city Takes the young and the pretty
There’s no time like the present
No present like the time
The time we spent at Jessie Jay’s
Lovin’ in bed for days n days
Touching and feeling our way through life
Things were so good then they took a dive
It’s the curse of the city
Takes the young and the pretty
To Hell I went down
To the yell of the crowd
And the devil himself
Saw my Crown
And they swung the rope high
For a Self-loathing crowd
And the Devil Himself
He came and stole the crown
Where’s the shame in that?
They caged you like a rat
You were just sharing time
with partners in crime
Taking a rest from the grime
Of the city
It’s the curse of the city
Takes the young and the pretty

Danger and Prose by Tale Teller Club (lyrics with a biro)

Danger and Prose by Tale Teller Club I was on a boat somewhere Floating on an ocean of my dreams Vaughn Williams Played A seranade To the waves Me and the old guy were drinking rum And the birds weaved their way In the rays of the sun ‘So what’s in the barrels?’ I said ‘Those are the souls of the dead All lost at sea There to remind me They smooth my way Map my stay Under the sun Into the seas Riding the waves Into the breeze’ ‘Why don’t you set them free?’ I said 'It’s a long tome dead, caged in a barrel’ ‘Because sinners party too well In Hell Never trust a stranger Take it from a lost soul who knows’ The old man was asleep on rum And I freed the souls one by one And they danced and they sung And the band played their drums We dived in the sea Went down to the core The flames they grew high And I just wanted more Cause the sinners party well Especially When their in Hell ©2021 Tale Teller Club /Sarnia de la Mare #poetry #poetrycommunity #poetrylovers #writer #writerscommunity #songs #lyrics #lyricswithabiro #sarniadelamare

The Banana by the Marchioness of Dorchester (circa 1650)

Twas there upon his plinth

of strength and flesh

(It grew again, inch by inch)

The golden fruit was found,

And it stood proud!

But in mine eyes,

Oh tempting prize.

Obsession doth belie

Lost in depths of this

Sweet fruity fire

Oh banana,

Tis you that I desire

Mine cheeks they glowed,

In yellow splendour’s gleam,

Fixated on its stiffening bow,

Forbidden dreams

Yes indeed,

I float

Upon,

Banana’s

Cream

Mine heart entwined

In peel of sweet delight

In passion's grip,

I see

The light.

Oh, love's sweet torment,

in banana's clutch,

Tis you that I desire.

Much

Vapor Punk the Robot Boy Free Clapping Song

cute pink robots artwork by iServalan for Tale Teller Club Band

Vapor Punk the Robot Boy for clapping and strumming guitar accompaniment

(Verse 1)

In a world of gears and steam so grand,

Lived Vapor Punk, a robot  so unplanned.

With brass and copper, his limbs so bright,

He'd dance and twirl in the soft moonlight.

(Chorus)

Vapor Punk, Vapor Punk the robot boy,

Gears and gadgets, oh what joy!

In a world of steam, where dreams deploy,

Vapor Punk brings us endless joy.

(Verse 2)

His eyes like buttons, shining with glee,

A mechanical heart ticking happily.

He'd whistle tunes with a steamy sound,

In the clockwork city, where he was found.

(Chorus)

Vapor Punk, Vapor Punk the robot boy,

Gears and gadgets, what a joy!

In a world of steam, where dreams deploy,

Vapor Punk brings us endless joy.

(Bridge)

Through valleys of clouds, he'd swiftly glide,

In his metal world, by our side.

With gears that spin and pistons thump,

Vapor Punk, the robot, jumps and jumps

(Chorus)

Vapor Punk, Vapor Punk the robot boy,

Gears and gadgets, what a joy!

In a world of steam, where dreams deploy,

Vapor Punk brings us endless joy.

(Outro)

Now close your eyes, little ones, and dream,

Of Vapor Punk in a world of steam.

In the land of gears and joyous noise,

Sleep tight, dear child, with your Vapor Punk toys.
